Hello! I’m Melissa.
It’s nice to meet you.
I am in Northern California with my superhero of a husband and our three school-aged daughters. We’re all California natives; I grew up south of San Francisco, and my husband grew up in the Central Valley. We met at UC Davis (go Ags!) and bounced around a bit between the Bay Area and the greater Sacramento area. We landed outside of Sacramento; we love our neighborhood and are enjoying raising our family here.
I was a full-time at-home mom for nearly ten years. I dipped my toes back into the workforce when my youngest was 2 years old. By the time my girls were 4, 7, and 10 years old, I was ready for more than just dipping my toes in. I established my bookkeeping business in 2017. At the start of 2020, I jumped at an opportunity to work as chief financial officer for one of my clients. Summer of 2021, I moved out of that role and decided to rebuild my business in order build the life I desire for my family and for my clients.
I have that entreprenuerial spirit and love to support business owners where and when I can. I am grateful for the time I get to spend with my kids and the skill set that allows me to build a business while giving my all to my family. I believe firmly that serving in my gifts and skills will allow me to meet the needs of my clients and my family. I believe that for you, too!
I love numbers – whether it’s helping my kids with math homework or sorting through monthly reconciliations, I am happiest when crunching numbers. Spreadsheets bring me joy!
I also love to sew. I got started at a young age and have sought out any opportunity to create joy from a bundle of fabric. I tried my hand at quilting at the end of high school when I *had* to have a Pottery Barn quilt to take to college. My mama shut that down, but she did send me over to my aunt’s shop to learn some tips and tricks. That first quilt inspired several more over the years. I have collected a number of machines over the years. Most are 100% functional, but a few are for looks alone. If you haven’t seen a vintage Singer Featherweight, go Google it. You’ll thank me later 🙂
I loved playing office at my grandmother’s house as a child. I can still remember my little cardboard computer and briefcase, lovingly crafted from spare boxes and contact paper. I’d spend hours creating print outs and sitting at my “desk,” typing away important memos and creating “mailings,” just like Grandma. I didn’t know it then, but my grandmother set a beautiful example of what it is to create a business that feeds one’s soul and supports family at the same time. In that same vein, I am building my business to honor the skills and gifts I have, to serve my community as best I can, and to support my family as they grow.
Thank you visiting!
Melissa
